Orthognathic surgery
Corrective jaw surgery is commonly performed to correct: open bite, undergrowth of the jaws, and overgrowth of the jaws.
Corrective jaw surgery involves setting the bones of the face into proper alignment. The patient usually requires orthodontic treatment (braces) prior to surgery. This procedure is often performed in an outpatient setting, and in more complex cases an overnight stay in the hospital may be necessary. Currently, new technology using miniature titanium plates and screws stabilize the operated jaws allowing for more comfort and quicker healing.
